Hi, I am reopening my fundraiser to purchase iPods for Elderly patients who suffer from memory problems such as Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia. Please watch the video. I purchase the iPods from Amazon or take used ones as donations and load them with requested playlists from each person. I try to put songs and music on that they have known from days when their memory was good (younger days). The place in the brain where the musical memory is stored is separated from the place where our other memories are located and these diseases do not affect that special music memory and sometimes they stimulate the part of the brain that stores the other memory, bringing back some temporary memories. My grandmother's best friend (from age 4) is in the final stages of Alzheimer's Disease. She received one of the iPods from me with her 'special playlist' last year and recently my grandma went to see her. She can no longer speak a sentence, but was able to sit and sing with my grandma while they both shared a earbud. It was the only thing they could do together and she knew my grandmother after them singing for a few minutes!!! She said they cried together too. They loved each other so much all of their lives! Also one of the nursing homes that got about five of my iPods last year has bought different headphones and the patients take turns wearing the iPods every single day. They really are low income and need some more iPods. Music can brighten up their days so much!!!! And help them remember better times and loved ones! I hope to get them more by Christmas.
